Umar Muda, a member of the House of Representatives, has introduced legislation to make crossdressing illegal in Nigeria.

On Tuesday, April 5, a measure was introduced in the House that prohibits cross-dressing, with the exception of those who do it for amusement purposes.

As a result of the law’s passage, defaulters will be sentenced to six months in prison.

The bill says;

“A person engaging in cross-dressing is guilty of an offense and liable to imprisonment of 6 months or to a fine of five hundred thousand naira,”

This bill attempts to modify the Same-sekz Marriage Act of 2013, naming cross-dressing as one of the offenses, which will clash with the likes of Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, James Brown, Denrele, and others.

If found guilty, this Act sentences same-sekz couples and gay people to 14 years in prison.
