“Africa’s Only Problem Is Being Split Into Countries”– Sarkodie(Video)
Popular Ghanaian rapper and self acclaimed ‘King of Africa’, Michael Owusu Addo known professionally as Sarkodie has reacted to the fights in the African musical industries.
Following Nigerian singer, Burna Boy Grammy-award win for ‘Best Global Music Album’ for his 2020 album “Twice as Tall”, Sarkodie has revealed that he believes the Grammy award won by Burna Boy was a win for the whole of Africa and not only Nigeria.
He made this statement during an interview he had with veteran music journalist, Adesope Olajide which was shared on Instagram.
During the interview, Sarkodie stated that any award won internationally by African artist wins it for the continent.
He further said that Africa’s biggest problem is being split into countries, adding that artists should start seeing themselves as one people.
In his words;
“The only problem we have now is that Africa is being split into countries. But if we see Burna as African, then these fights won’t happen. First and foremost, it’s for Africa. Burna took it and we just all have to celebrate and it opens the door for everybody else to be able to come through.”
“I’m not gonna take out the fact that business-wise, there are things that we should be doing. And people always keep talking about when something works, like have you seen how this thing worked. Because that is what you’ve seen, there’s a possibility that could be working in a different way as well.”
Ghanaian rapper and hiplife artist, Sarkodie is one of the greatest and most decorated entertainer in Africa, having won over 105 awards from 191 nominations, including 25 Ghana Music Awards.
