Could this be the cause of the Beef Between Davido and Burnaboy?

Recently the two famous Nigerian afrobeat artists, Davido and Burnaboy has been in a longtime beef that generated into a fight at a nightclub in Ghana.

It was alleged that the fight started by Burnaboy who came into a nightclub were Davido was partying and went directly to his table to attack him. Overlooking who threw the first punch, for a squabble between top celebrities to degenerate to a level were punch had to be exchanged means there’s a big issue on ground.

From an interview Davido had with t.v host Ebuka, it was discovered that it didn’t used to be all hate between these two. In the interview, Davido recounts how him, Burnaboy and Dammy krane were flogged by soldiers in 2010.

He went on to say that him and Burnaboy used to refer to themselves as brothers. This friendship is evidenced from a congratulatory tweet Davido made to Burnaboy late 2019 when the latter was nominated for a Grammy award.

Unfortunately, Burnaboy lost this award and it seems this was the Genesis of the feud between the Duo as they were seen jibing at each other with their tweets and songs from then on.

Initially, Burnaboy was quiet on social media for a while after his loss. However, there was a time he replied a Twitter user who made a post insinuating that Burnaboy came at a time when others has paved the way for him.

In response to this, Burnaboy hit back at the user negating these claims and added that on the contrary, none of his colleague in the industry cared.

The real heat came in March 2020 when Burnaboy announced that he would be dropping his new album ‘Twice as Tall’ on July 2020. In May 2020, Davido also announced that his album ‘A Better Time’ will be dropping that same July 2020. Seems like a competition right? Probably what Burnaboy interpreted it to be as he subtly throws shade at Davido with his tweet “July will be very funny and I shall laugh accordingly”.

Not long after this post from Burnaboy, Davido tweeted an edited picture of him and Wizkid with the caption

‘The 2 greatest of all time! No 🧢’

Well, Burnaboy might have taken this sidelining as a slap to his face as he replied by tweeting “you can not play football, everybody knows you cannot play football and you are an embarrassment to the team. But your daddy bought the football team”, subtly insinuating that Davido bought his way into the music industry with his father’s wealth as he, Davido, can not sing.

Not only were these two subtly dissing each other with tweets, they were also doing it with their songs. It is believed that Burnaboy’s songs, ‘Twice as Tall’ and ‘Way too big’ were aimed at Davido while Davido’s song ‘Fem’ is directed at Burnaboy (Read the lyrics).

If indeed this is what lead to the recent fist fight, it only means that the bad blood between this two is nothing but friction from competition which they are allowing to escalate into something big.
