“I Am Honored To Be Part Of This Trio In Mixed Martial Arts”– UFC Champ, Israel Adesanya Says

Nigerian-born New Zealand professional mixed martial artist, Israel Adesanya has taken to social media to praise African fighters over their amazing performances and dominance in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Three African fighters, Israel Adesanya, Kamaru Usman and Francis Ngannou have made history in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) by holding the topmost position in three different divisions at the same time, embossing the image of the continent on the world globe.

Currently, Israel Adesanya from Nigeria is the world’s middleweight champion. Another Nigerian, Kamaru Usman is the current welterweight champion whilst Francis Ngannou, a Cameroonian has emerged as the new heavyweight champion after a dramatic 2nd round knockout of his opponent, Stipe Miocic at UFC 260 to claim the title.

The world’s middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya recently made a post on his social media handle on popular Social platform, Instagram, on 17th June 2021.

Taking to his Instagram page, the 31 year old noted that the numbers of African fighters are relatively low compared to fighters from other parts of the world. He Disclosed that there are over 600 fighters who are currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship but less than 30 of them are of African origin.

Despite the low numbers of African fighters in UFC, Adesanya is proud of himself alongside Kamaru Usman and Francis Ngannou who are currently champions.

Sharing photos of himself and the other two African champions, he wrote;

“An era in the history of sports that will never be forgotten.

I am honored to be part of this trio in mixed martial arts.
There are 600+ active UFC fighters.
Less than 30 of us are Africans.
Yet 3 of us are Champions.
