Veteran Nigerian rapper M.l Abaga has offered his opinion on Wizkid’s contentious claim that rap music is no longer relevant.

Afrobeat music is the new pop, according to Wizkid, who also said that rap music is no longer relevant in a recent interview with 10 magazine.

M.l. Abaga responded by writing a message to Nigerian rappers, which she then posted on Twitter on Friday. He projected that the genre would keep growing and urged his contemporaries to focus on their craft.

He wrote:

“The energy around HIPHOP right now feels right.. I know most rappers are still not the most popular yet.. but right now is time for us to focus on the craft.. just keep getting better.. this year we did so well as a genre and next year we grow!!!!”

He continued by giving examples of Nigerian rappers who, in his opinion, are succeeding against all odds, including Falz, Blaqbonez, Vector, A-Q, Ladipoe, and others.
