Ismaila Mustapha a.k.a. Mompha, an internet celebrity, has been released two months after being re-arrested for laundering cash received via illegal operations and retention of claimed profits of crime.

According to reports, the socialist was released shortly after a court ruled over by Justice Mojisola Dada granted a variation of his bail plea to N25 million.

He is also required to submit two sureties in order to consolidate the N200 million bail bond given by the same court when he was charged in January.

On Monday, March 28, his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole, SAN, appealed to the court for a change in his bail conditions and informed the court that the defendant had handed his international passport to the court registrar.

He based his motion on the grounds that Mompha is also on trial before the Federal High Court and “has never missed a single day of court.”

Most important my lord is that the defendant wants to engage the prosecution on the charges,” he said.

The EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, confirmed receipt of the defense’s application but left the matter to the Court’s discretion.

Justice Dada granted Mompha bail in the sum of N25 million with two sureties in the same sum, one of whom must own a property worth N50 million within the jurisdiction of the Court, after accepting his plea for bail variation.
