Tokyo2020: Blessing Okagbare Slams AFN Over Ban Of Ten Athletes
Nigerian Track and Field Athlete, Blessing Okagbare has slammed the Athletics Federation of Nigeria(AFN) over the ban of the ten Nigerian Athletes from Tokyo2020 Olympic games.
This comes after ten Nigerian Athletes were banned by the Athletics Integrity Unit for not observing no-notice out-of-competition tests (urine and blood), which are to be conducted not less than three weeks apart in the ten months leading up to a major event.
Taking to her official Twitter page on Thursday, July 29th, 2021, Okagbare statemented that Nigerian athletes are the ones that faces the consequences for all the shortcomings of the Nigerian sport system.
According to her, affected Athletes who were based in Nigeria did not get the proper information they needed before going to Olympic Games in Tokyo.
She tweeted;
“I have said it before and I will say it again. If you do not know the sport, not passionate about it/us (the athletes), then you have no business there as an administrator. The sport system in Nigeria is so flawed and we athletes are always at the receiving end of the damages.
“They were busy fighting over power, exercising their pride over puma contract/ kits forgetting their major responsibility “THE ATHLETES”. It’s sad that this cycle keeps repeating its self and some people will come out to say I am arrogant for speaking my truth. It is my CAREER.”
