Singer, Tems Tops Billboard’s Next Big Sound

Fast-raising Nigerian singer, Tems continues to make global impact as she tops the Billboard Next Big Sound chart.

Temilade Openiyi popularly known as ‘Tems’ was born on June 11, 1995 in Lagos, Nigeria. Born to a Nigerian mother and British father, Tems family moved to the United Kingdom shortly after birth.

Her parents separated when she was five, and relocated to Ilupeju, before moving to Lekki, then Ajah.

In December 2020, Tems and fellow Nigerian artist Omah Lay were arrested in Uganda while there for a live performance for violating COVID-19 safety laws. They were later released and the charges were dropped

Next Big Sound (NBS) is a New York-based company which provides analytics for online music. The company analyses the popularity of musicians in social networks, streaming services, and radio.

Tems position which is a projection for the third week of May starting from the 22nd, sees her hitting the number one spot after being on the charts for 4 weeks.

Recently, billboards with Tems on the cover sprung up in four cities in the United States as well as Lagos.
